Mantua... Two Towns One Story
Mantua was an actual settlement back in the 1800s! It is said that William McKinney, James and John Throckmorton, and Joseph Wilcox set aside 25 square miles for the town of Mantua. Lots were sold and those funds were sold and funds used for the Mantua Seminary. Mantua Lodge No. 209 A.F. & A.M. organized in 1857, and the Masons first met on the second story of the Walcott’s Store, and a Post Office was established n 1858 ... and as the story goes the town slowly disappeared after the Civil War...
